In
1978 Jim Peterik started calling
some of his favorite Chicago musicians
to form the new Jim Peterik Band.
The nucleus of the band: Jim Peterik
- guitar, keyboards & vocals, Frankie
Sullivan - guitar & vocals and Dave
Bickler - lead vocals, soon evolved
into Jim Peterik's Survivor, and
then simply to Survivor (a name Jim
pulled from the liner notes of his
'76 solo album that read "Jim Peterik
is a survivor").
In
1980 they released their first of
seven albums (not including soundtracks
and greatest hits). Their big break
came late in 1981 when Sylvester
Stallone asked Jim and Frank to write
the title track to ROCKY III. Seven
million copies later "Eye of the
Tiger" remains an anthem to the human
spirit.
Throughout
the 80's, Survivor scored many
top tens with Peterik/Sullivan
tunes like
"I Can't Hold Back", "High On
You", "The Search Is Over", "Is
This Love"
and "Burning Heart", their #l
theme from ROCKY IV. Jim performed
with the band touring world-wide
until his departure in 1996.
