Introducing Marzette Griffith....
Two-Time World Steppin' Champion in his smooth solo debut CD.

No history of the Chicago soul scene would be complete without a chapter on Marzette Griffith. As the main singer in the group Essence, he propelled their two singles, "Sweet Fools" and "I Ain't Much But I'm All I Got" into the Billboard chart's top 100 in the late 70's. Released on the Epic subsidiary, Cleveland International, this R&B classic was co- produced by Chicago legend, Willie Henderson along with Frank Rand and Grammy winner Jim Peterik of Ides of March ("Vehicle") and Survivor ("Eye Of the Tiger") fame. Jim and Marzette formed a musical alliance that remains to this day.

Since then, Marzette has been honing his skills as a songwriter, producer, dancer and solo artist. His 1995 release as a member of ASAP (with Dick Fowler and Keith Stewart -- also produced by Jim Peterik with ASAP) achieved strong regional sales and caught the attention of a noted promoter who brought the group to Romania for a tour in 1996.

Through it all, Marzette has nurtured his love for dancing. He has captivated audiences for years with his smooth stepping style, becoming one of the pioneers of that dance genre in Chicago, winning the World's Largest Stepper's Contest for two years running. He also made his cameo film appearance dancing in the world-wide release "Love Jones".

With the release of "Steppin' to Love" Marzette has truly hit his stride. Co-produced by Marzette along with Jim Peterik and Phil Danzig, the album shows off Marzette's melodic style and wide range of vocal talents -- in one song he can go from Russell Thompkins to Phillipe Wynne. The album emphasizes grooves-to-step-to but is not just a stepper's album -- it is for anyone who loves great songs and strong vocals.

The chapter on Marzette Griffith continues to unfold, and make history representing Chicago artists everywhere. He has taken his smooth vocal and dancing style to another level in the entertainment business. In his first stop, Marzette performed for V-103 "Expo For Todays Black Women" on April 7th, 8th and 9th 2000 at the McCormick Place. On July 28th, 2000 he was the opening act for the Whispers at the New Regal Theater. Mr. Griffith doesn't stop there! On March 13th 2001, he performed on WGN Channel 9 during the 6 AM morning segment called, "The Battle of The Bands." This segment featured some of Chicago's hottest talent around. Catch this!! For Marzette's latest encore venture, on March 17th, 2001, he performed a duet with Jim Peterik, former member of the groups called "Survivor" and "The Ides Of March," for World Stage Productions. One of the biggest hits by the Ides Of March, "Vehicle", was resurrected once again with the added vocals and Fred Astaire style dance moves by Marzette. Jim Peterik enjoyed sharing the spotlight which highlighted his character as a true artist.

This 2000 release is currently a hot item in the Chicagoland area and is rapidly expanding its market. Marzette has been busy making club appearances, radio station interviews and in-store promotions. His single, "Nobody By That Name" has been featured on V103 and has anchored itself firmly in the top 10 in the Still Of The Night and Night-life record pools. The record is being distributed by Baker & Taylor and can be found at most record stores. For the store nearest you call Baker & Taylor at 1-800-775-2800.
